How to wash down jackets

1. Rinse the down jacket with water temperature of 30 degrees.

Soak the down jacket in cold water for 20 minutes, so that the inside and outside of the down jacket are fully moisturized. Then dissolve the detergent in 30 degrees warm water, put the down jacket in it and soak it for a quarter of an hour, and then gently scrub with a soft brush. Rinse down jackets should use warm water, which can help the detergent to be fully dissolved in the water and make the down jackets rinsed more cleanly.

2. Be sure to wash down jackets by hand

We will find that on the inside of the down jacket, on the small label of the care and washing instructions, 90% of the down jackets indicate that they should be washed by hand and should not be dry cleaned. The main ingredient of down is protein. When it is dried in a dry cleaner, the down tends to become brittle, shatter, and come out from the seams of the clothes, which is the so-called runaway. Next time you wear it again, it won't be as warm as before, and the down will stick to your other clothes, which is particularly annoying.

3. It is best to use neutral detergent to clean down jackets

Neutral detergents have the least damage to clothing and down. Using alkaline detergent, if the rinsing is not clean, the residual detergent will cause damage to the down jacket, and it is easy to leave white marks on the surface of the clothes, which will affect the appearance. To remove residual alkaline detergent, after rinsing twice, add two tablespoons of vinegar to warm water, soak the down jacket for a while and then rinse. The vinegar can neutralize the alkaline detergent.

4. The concentration of washing powder should not be too high.

It is generally recommended to clean down jackets with a neutral detergent. But if you must use detergent to clean down jackets, it is usually appropriate to put 4 to 5 tablespoons of detergent in two basins of water. If the concentration is too high, it is difficult to rinse off the remaining washing powder. The residual washing powder in the down will affect the bulkiness of the down and greatly reduce the warmth retention.

4. Don't wring out the down jacket

After the down jacket is washed, it should not be wringed dry. The water should be squeezed out and then laid flat or hung to dry. Do not expose down jackets to the sun, and do not iron them to avoid scalding the clothes. After drying, you can gently tap to make the down jacket fluffy and soft.
